Chapter 251: Don't Be Cowardly, Just Do It!
The middle-aged boss had only warned them because of that gold coin.
However, when he closed the door, he appeared to have seen something. And when he turned away from the door, it could be seen that his face had become as pale as a vampire, and he looked listless. "They are here..." he mumbled the same words again and again.
"They are here."
Burned Cinder glanced at William and walked towards the window. He opened it a little and peeked through the small gap. After a while, he turned and shook his head. That indicated that he didn't see anything outside. Or rather, the six of them didn't sense any incoming crisis.
William raised his eyebrows. "Have a good night's sleep. We are hunters; they are not," he said while walking upstairs.
The others nodded and also went upstairs to sleep.
This neutral territory exuded a weird aura.
William and company were only staying here for the night. They wanted to go and explore the East Sea Metropolis. If they got scared by the vampires in this small town, they might as well head home now.
Time passed.
A new day arrived.
William had a good sleep. Nothing weird had happened the previous night.
But when everyone headed out in the morning, they found the middle-aged boss lying dead in the lobby. His blood had not sucked dry, but his body was contorted into a fried dough twist by a powerful force. He had a gold coin in his mouth. His eyes were filled with fear, and it looked that he died with a grievance.
William saw this scene and frowned. "Notify the guards in this town. Let's go."
"Okay." Burned Cinder picked up the gold coin from the corpse's mouth, not disgusted by it at all. He then headed to notify the guards of the town.
Neutral Lords could build any town that they liked, as long as it was within their territory. Their subordinates would pose as the town mayors. While the soldiers in the town were supposedly led by the mayor, the military power actually belonged to the Lords.
It was still pouring outside, and the weather was still gloomy and cold.
After the town mayor received news of the hotel boss's death, he did not show any intention of investigating William and the others, nor did he trace the cause of the hotel boss's death. He hurriedly dispatched guards to send William and company out of the town. It was almost as if he was sending the King of Hell off.
Amidst the rainy weather, the six of them rode on horses and continued on their way to the East Sea Metropolis.
After three days, they had passed by many towns. And they found that the situation of those towns was similar to that of the first one they visited. In this gloomy and rainy weather, everyone stayed at home with their doors closed. It was hard to find any clues in this situation.
William felt a little impatient. He wanted to cut to the chase and enter the East Sea Metropolis to unravel the mystery.
After all, East Sea Metropolis was not a small town near the borders. It was easier to commit crimes in smaller towns. But East Sea Metropolis had a population of millions. Hence, even if the vampires were officials, they could not recklessly grab any human and suck their blood.
The prime example of this was the Emerald Grand Duchy.
Their royal family and aristocrats were all vampires.
However, the civilians living there were still alive and well. There were a few rumors about vampires, but nothing much came out of it.
Even the Freedom Alliance of players, that had entered the Emerald Grand Duchy a year earlier, did not find any clues about vampires there.
Even if there was any clue, it would normally be a dead end anyway.
It was only until more and more players participated in missions related to vampires.
That secret mission, it was only then that all of the players' clues pointed towards the royal family and aristocrats.
It was only then that the players gradually turned their attention to the high and mighty king, royal family, and aristocrats.
No matter how doubtful the players were, this was the truth!
Before they got close to the East Sea Metropolis.
"Prince William, other than a few soldiers and civilians, we haven't seen any town officials on the way here. Are they deliberately avoiding us?" while walking, Diablo couldn't help but ask.
"Yeah, the rumors say that there are vampires here. However, I haven't seen any town mayor ask us to help deal with the vampires." Wells said in a puzzled tone.
Burned Cinder laughed. "Those town mayors are probably afraid of revenge."
"It is said that Bernard, the East Sea Metropolis Lord, is very powerful. He has hundreds of thousands of warriors at his command. It doesn't make sense if he can't take care of a few vampires.
"If the vampires really want to take revenge on those mayors, will they be able to face Bernard's wrath if he is angered?"
"After traveling for the past few days, we can confirm that there are vampires on this territory. They don't attack often and there is no pattern. Their targets are normally young people, of which most are civilians. They rarely target slaves!
"However, everyone should have heard by now that the East Sea Metropolis officials are not targets of the vampires.
"From this, we can infer that the East Sea Metropolis officials are professionals and are quite powerful.
"Nonetheless, logically, blood of professionals should taste better right?
"Is it possible that Lord Bernard is a vampire? Or that he has reached some sort of agreement with the vampires?"
Alec presented a well constructed opinion and everyone was in deep thought upon hearingit.
William didn't say anything on their way here. He only told them that there were definitely vampires in the East Sea Metropolis, and left them to guess the rest.
But one had to consider that these three Legendary bloodline and two Epic bloodline Bosses weren't dumb. After some discussion, they had linked the vampires and Lord Bernard together.
However, they needed evidence!
Words alone could not serve as proof.
Nonetheless, sometimes, it was useless even if one had evidence.
For example, in William's previous life, after the players had been defeated by the Darkness Invasion, they joined the Emerald Grand Duchy Camp.
The vampires had attacked them before, but they had found that the blood of the chosen ones tasted like shit. Their blood was poisonous and wasn't suited to their taste.
The chosen ones weren't fit to be their food. After knowing that, they didn't have any intention of attacking players.
Nonetheless, the chosen ones were quite strong and could be resurrected. Because of that, the King and the aristocrats (vampires) treated the players well. They published all sorts of missions for them to take on, such as killing their enemy vampires.
However, the players were curious!
They didn't let it go easily and constantly collected clues regarding vampires. They didn't give up on any clue, regardless of whether it was about the vampires in the enemy nation or those in their own nation. Even if the aristocrats (vampires) tried to distract them by asking them to spy on the vampires belonging to the enemy nation, they didn't budge.
As time passed, the players really discovered many clues. There was a lot of evidence that showed that their Camp's royal family and aristocrats were actually vampires!
This feeling was something like the idiom 'you can't see the forest for the trees'. The Emerald Grand Duchy was the players' Camp. If you told them that the head of their Camp was a vampire, who would believe it!
At the start of Version 3.0 in William's previous life, the players thought that all the supposed evidence was a strategy by the enemy nation's vampires to distract them.
After all, how many people would suspect that their Camp's leader was a vampire?
Even if they did!
Those people belonged to the minority and were attacked by other people on the forum.
However, that was the truth.
Regardless of whether it was Version 1.0, 2.0, or 3.0, every main storyline plot was full of conspiracies and darkness, causing the players to suffer.
As the truth was slowly unveiled, other than being incredulous, the players could only open their eyes wide and stare into space...
However, William was going to intervene in this complicated matter.
Those vampires were very awesome and good at disguising as aristocrats and officials?
William didn't need any evidence.
He only needed to see the vampires and beat them to death, making them show their true vampire form. When that time would come, that bunch of vampires who didn't dare to show their true form could only be forced to suffer in silence.
After all, even if vampires were engaged in battle, there was no way to get them to show their true form if they didn't want to, not unless they were killed!
In William's previous life, were there any players that actually dared to attack their own Camp's Boss?
William would do all the things that the players didn't have the guts or the ability to do.
He had both the courage and the ability for that.
In the towns that the six of them passed by, the local vampires knew that they were weaker than them, so they slowly led them into the East Sea Metropolis.
Was William scared?
Of course, he was.
Nonetheless, it was human nature to be afraid.
This fear only served as motivation for him to become stronger.
Two days later, they arrived at the East Sea Metropolis.
William was here to help his subordinate get revenge. He didn't want to pick on Lord Bernard just yet.
If Lord Bernard really disrupted his mission, he would not mind turning the mission difficulty level from A+ to S!
Both of them were neutral Lords.
Both of them didn't have strong backgrounds.
William had so many players at his command, did he need to be afraid?
