Chapter 250: Vampire Nation
If the southeastern region was in the subtropical regions.
This place that was north of the southeastern region could only be regarded as a warm zone. Even if it was located close to the coastline, the temperature there wasn't very high.
It was autumn now. And even though dark clouds lined the sky and bolts of lightning could be seen, there wasn't any thunder. It seemed like it was going to rain soon, and the peace was about to be broken.
William and co. left the City of Dawn riding on horses. It took them 5 entire days to arrive at the borders of the East Sea Metropolis.
The Black Lava Dukedom was behind them, while the nation that was ruled by vampires was in front of them.
At this moment, an obvious boundary appeared in front of them. It was not a boundary that could be seen by the naked eye, but an inexplicable chill that could only be felt.
Not only William sensed that, but his other 5 companions also slightly frowned. The East Sea Metropolis in front of them didn't seem like a neutral territory, but more of an ominous land.
Boom!
Loud rumbles of thunder pierced the air.
Heavy rain poured from the sky like a water curtain.
Ever since William and co. set foot on the East Sea Metropolis territory, autumn rain started pouring continuously and showed no signs of stopping.
The six of them were dressed like rangers and demon hunters that had traveled a long way there.
William was dressed in black robes with a hood. Raindrops smacked against his body, making a loud sound. He lifted his head to look at the sky and then glanced at the city that was seven or eight miles away. He coughed a little. "Let's go take a look at the situation. There are probably quite a few vampires here. Everyone, be careful."
The East Sea Metropolis now was different from that in his previous life.
He had come here, two years in advance, to gain some information, so that he could help Diablo in his revenge.
The vampires were very skilled in disguising themselves. Players couldn't see through their real nature by just using insight. That was why he needed to know how many vampires there were here.
After all, when he had come here during his previous life, the East Sea Metropolis and Emerald Grand Duchy were already secretly engaged in war, and the vampire population had drastically decreased.
"The rumor about vampires is real?" Wells curiously asked.
"It should be real." Diablo nodded. However, his childhood memories weren't enough to serve as evidence. It could have also been his own hallucination, so he didn't elaborate further.
William grinned and exhaled in the cold rain. "We call them vampires, but they call themselves the Blood Race." His tone was soft and low.
"Normally, vampires behave just like humans, and it's difficult to distinguish their true identity.
"If we talk about any special characteristics, it would be that their skin is too pale. And it's hard to spot their veins.
"When they are engaged in battle, some powerful vampires can grow out dragon-like wings. When they want to escape, they can transform into bats too.
"However, these characteristics just prove that they are difficult opponents.
"Their most powerful skill is that they are able to control the blood in our bodies!"
Violent Dragon, a tall and strong guy full of muscles, gulped. He was over two meters tall, so among the six of them, he had the most amount of blood. Would not he be the one who would suffer the most?
"Control the blood in our bodies?" he couldn't help but ask.
"No, not us, but you. This is a vampire's unique magic skill, or rather, their instinct. If you really encounter a vampire and go under their control, you must be ready to use your battle energy shield to suppress their control.
If you allow them to control your blood, no matter how thick your skin is, you will die." William glanced at the others. All of them were Bosses.
In the past, they had been allies or enemies.
However, the City of Dawn was the most powerful force in the southeastern region now. These guys had become William's subordinates and could be considered as one family now.
Now, they had to be prepared to face foreign magical creatures like vampires.
William glanced at these Legendary and Epic bloodline Bosses, who seemed a little cowardly now. Were they scared now?
This was human nature indeed. Humans were forever afraid of the unknown.
Nonetheless, they should know that their bloodline potential was much stronger than most vampires.
Even if the weaker vampires had Advanced combat power, they might not necessarily be able to control their blood.
Hm!
Actually, William was afraid of the unknown too. However, if he didn't say that out loud, no one would know...
"Why control me only? I deserve to be controlled just because I'm muscular and have more blood?" Violent Dragon looked depressed
William's mouth twitched. "You guys don't need to be too worried. I have many Light magic scrolls with me. Everyone, take a dozen of these. If you really encounter a vampire, you will be immune from their blood control for dozens of seconds once you crush this."
"Heheh, that's great. Prince William, you should have mentioned this earlier." Violent Dragon laughed and took a dozen magic scrolls. The others followed suit.
Half an hour later, the six of them approached a small town.
The guards of the city gate had already closed the main entrance long ago. They were roasting fire on the 8-meter-high rampart when they spotted something. They calmly looked at the few rangers.
"Open the gate," Alec called out.
A guard carrying a longbow reluctantly walked to the edge of the city wall under the heavy rain. "This is East Sea Metropolis territory, who are you guys?" he frowned.
"Demon hunters." William took out his Lightning Bow and shot an arrow at a tree that was a hundred meters away!
Woosh!
A flash could be seen zooming past the gloomy area.
Even the raindrops seemed to pause at that moment.
Boom!
The instant the arrow touched the tree that stood more than ten meters tall, battle energy reduced the entire tree into powder, and it sank into the ground with the rain.
How powerful!
Several guards of the town secretly thought so. They weren't worried that these demon hunters would cause trouble. There were many demon hunters that came to the East Sea Metropolis, but many of them also ended up dead...
In recent years, many witnesses had reported seeing vampires in the East Sea Metropolis.
Indeed, many slaves and civilians had suddenly disappeared without a trace.
In response to the legend of vampires, the Lord of the East Sea Metropolis had sent soldiers to suppress them, and he even personally led an attack. However, those vampires could transform into bats and escape, so attempting to chase and block off their routes wasn't an effective method.
In the end, the Lord of the East Sea Metropolis could only ask for demon hunters to come forth and take care of those vampires.
It was a pity that no matter how famous the demon hunter was, all of them ended up dead...
Luckily, those vampires didn't attack often, and the civilian death count wasn't too high, so the locals didn't really care about this issue.
After all, for the past hundreds of years, the locals had been facing the threat of death constantly...
However, many people were still alive and well, so they didn't take this matter seriously.
Nonetheless, whenever the sun was setting, the East Sea Metropolis would close their city gate. Such locations where people normally gathered in the East Sea Metropolis territory would also close their doors, in case vampires were roaming about.
The guard went down and opened the city gate. He glanced at the six people who had powerful auras. "Welcome, powerful demon hunters. You may enter the town, but please don't wander around. After all, this is Lord Bernard's territory." He was straightforward.
"No problem. But can you tell us the location of a hotel? My brothers are a little tired, and we need a place to rest." William smiled. A strong expert's ability could serve as a visitation pass. This principle applied to many places, including empires.
He didn't need to act weak. As long as he was stronger than these guards, they would respect him.
"Walk along this road for 300 meters, and you will see a hotel. There are too few merchant teams that come to the East Sea Metropolis, and the hotels do not profit much, so the furnishing isn't that good. Hope you guys don't mind." The guards smiled and welcomed the six of them inside before watching them set off for the hotel.
Subsequently, the city gate closed slowly with a creaking sound.
The guards on the city rampart had inexplicable smiles on their faces. They looked at William's group as if they were dead people.
...
The sky seemed to have become darker.
This was a small town with no lights to illuminate the streets. Everyone was locked up away in their households, and this place exuded a strange aura.
The autumn rain still poured, and the weather was getting colder. One could see one's breath condense upon exhaling.
The town's pavement wasn't built with stone slabs. As the rain went on, the ground gradually became muddy.
Luckily, even if William wielded a lot of power, he didn't behave like a superior aristocrat. He was a warrior that had experienced life or death situations. Almost every city had rules that decreed no horses in the city. This wasn't his territory, so it was better to keep a low profile.
Thereafter, the six of them led their horses on for a few hundred meters before they found a hotel.
Though the hotel appeared to be closed, a glimpse of candlelight could be seen through the crack of the door.
Alec pushed the wooden door open, causing wind and rain to enter the hotel. The flame on the candle flickered as a fat middle-aged man was snoozing on the table. He didn't realize that someone had entered.
"Knock knock knock!" Violent Dragon knocked loudly on the wooden door.
"Who is it!" The hotel boss woke up with a shock. He wiped his saliva in a manner similar to that of William, turning to look at the six tall and muscular men at the door.
"Phew, I thought you guys were vampires. That didn't seem right since vampires don't like to drink the blood of fat people."
"What the hell, is this what you are banking on?" Burned Cinder didn't say anything on their journey here, but he was a little annoyed now.
Logically, vampires should be like humans. They should prefer fatter prey!
The middle-aged boss ignored that comment and laughed. "You guys are looking for accommodation, huh? There are only four rooms now, though. Some of you need to squeeze," he said, after sizing up William and the others.
"Okay, I'll have one room for myself. Anything is fine for the others." William said directly.
"Up to you, but it's better if two people stay in one room together. After all, you should have heard about the rumors here." the middle-aged boss said while grabbing the keys.
"Oh right, a room costs 5 silver coins each."
"What a scam... here you go." Violent Dragon's mouth twitched, throwing him 20 silver coins without care. This sort of rundown place cost 5 silver coins? If he stayed at the Black Lava Palace, it would have cost him 5 silver coins, and that also included a woman he could spend the night with!
The middle-aged boss hurriedly collected the silver coins and bit them to check their authenticity. "The Lord decreed this. After all, the vampire rumor isn't false, and merchant teams don't dare to come here, so we earn as much as we can get."
"You guys are demon hunters, right?"
"Yes, any useful news for us?" Burned Cinder took out a gold coin and toyed with it in his palm.
The middle-aged boss rubbed his hands together. He would talk about it after he received the money first.
"There!" Burned Cinder tossed the gold coin over to him.
William, who had taken the key and was about to go upstairs, stopped in his tracks too. He wanted to hear what this fatty had to say.
Therefore, the middle-aged boss closed the door nervously. "You guys should stay in one room. Leave this place tomorrow as soon as you can and go to the Black Lava Dukedom near here," he said, looking at them as though they were dead people.
"Ever since 18 years ago, none of the demon hunters that came here has left alive."
Bang!
The wooden door was blown open by the strong wind again.
The middle-aged boss was so scared that the fats on his body were jiggling. When he closed the door, he could faintly see a small bat hanging upside down on a diagonal tree. Its crimson blood eyes were faintly visible!
