Chapter 974: Does She Really Like Him?

Just a half-hour before the end of office hours, Lu Lian decided to go to Ming Rusheng's office finally as he had called her.

Knocking on the door, she entered the office, and Ming Rusheng looked at the person who had just entered.

Their sights met, but no one showed anything indifferently. It was difficult for both of them to guess what was in each other's minds.

"Mr. Ming asked for me," Lu Lian commented.

Ming Rusheng nodded and signaled her to sit. Just as Lu Lian sat, Ming Rusheng put one file in front of her.

Looking at him and the file questioningly, Lu Lian opened it as she started to go through it.

This new project. Father wants you to work on it along with me as you are skilled in western style.

Going through the file, Lu Lian spoke, "It's not that difficult these days; anyone can do it."

Ming Rusheng understood what she meant but tried once more to ask her directly to work on it.

"But you are the most experienced here, and this one is an important project just like the one we are working on."

"I can see that, but after the current project, I have decided to resign...."

KNOCK!! KNOCK!!

Someone entered the office before Lu Lian could finish what she wished, and Ming Rusheng gave out a sigh of relief.

"Good to see both of you here," said the man who entered the room.

"Grandpa," said Ming Rusheng surprisingly as he didn't expect elder Ming to show up at the right time.

"I thought about visiting the office. It's been a while," elder Ming replied and stepped to sit on the couch.

Standing up from the chair, Lu Lian bowed a little to greet the grandpa.

"How have you been, Lian?" Elder Ming asked as he sat.

"I'm fine, grandpa," she replied.

"I hope Rusheng is not making you work too much."

"No, grandpa," she replied.

"Good to know it."

"I'll take a leave then," she said only to hear elder Ming complaining, "Won't you even sit with grandpa?"

"No, grandpa. I just had some work to do," she explained.

Lu Lian knew if she sat there, elder Ming would say or instruct something that she wouldn't be able to deny, and this time she didn't wish to change her decision for any reason.

"Come sit with grandpa," Elder Ming instructed.

Unwillingly, Lu Lian sat with grandpa. Her reaction didn't go unnoticed by Ming Rusheng.

"Grandpa, we should not disturb someone from doing their work for personal reasons," said Ming Rusheng.

"Will you teach me now? It's just for a few minutes," said elder Ming, and Ming Rusheng kept quiet.

Elder Ming shifted his attention to Lu Lian, "I heard lots of good things about you from everyone. You are doing really well."

"Thank you, grandpa," she replied.

"I heard there is one more project, but I'll suggest you not to work yourself too much and rest for a while more," elder Ming suggested.

"Thank you for the concern, grandpa," Lu Lian was ready to say something else, "But...."

"I know I'm keeping you from work. You can leave now," said the elder Ming, smiling lightly without giving her a chance to say what she wished.

Understanding what his grandpa did, Ming Rusheng thought, 'This old man is just like me..wait..or I'm like him.'

Lu Lian stood up and left while Ming Rusheng gave a meaningful look to his grandpa, to which the elder Ming smiled lightly.

Lu Mansion...

During dinner, Lu Lijun and Jiang Yuyan were silent as usual, just answering what was asked of them.

"How was your meeting with Wen Zac?" Lu Jinhai asked.

"We had finalized the things comfortable for both sides," she replied.

"It's easier to work with Wen Zac than his father," Lu Jinhai commented, "His father, My friend, is the stubborn man to come down to compromise so soon."

"Mr. Wen Zac is a thoughtful businessman," Jiang Yuyan commented.

Someone was there who felt as if the tasty food in his mouth suddenly turned bitter, and he managed to gulp it somehow.

Lu Jinhai looked at his father as if signaling himself something.

Elder Lu understood and asked, "As a person, what do you think about him, Yuyan?"

Jiang Yuyan looked at elder Lu that startled him.

"I was just curious to know if he took after his stubborn and egoistic father," elder Lu explained, smiling pleasantly.

"He seems like a good person. Nothing to complain about," she replied casually and resumed eating.

Lu Lijun's grip on the chopsticks tightened as if they would have broken if they were not made of metal.

"Don't we have anything important to talk about?" Lu Lijun commented.

"What do you want to talk about then?" elder Lu asked.

Lu Lijun looked at Lu Lian, "Elder sister, when are you resigning?"

"Soon after this project," Lu Lian replied.

"Why do you want to resign?" elder Lu asked.

Lu Lian had nothing to say while Lu Lijun replied, "Elder sister should take a rest and look after her health first."

No one said anything. Lu Lian had already decided, and it was alright if she wished to rest.

After the dinner, elder Lu went to the garden where Lu Lijun was already present, sitting quietly.

"His elder brothers are not home, so he must feel lonely," elder Lu commented.

"It can't be helped. They have their things to do," Lu Jinhai replied.

"It's good that he is working in the office," Lu Chen added.

The three reached the tree where Lu Lijun sat on the bench under it.

"Help your grandpa walk comfortably," elder Lu instructed and signaled Lu Lijun to follow him.

Lu Lijun stood up and held his grandpa's hand for support.

"Your grandpa is getting older who needs support now," elder Lu commented.

"To me, grandpa looks alright," Lu Lijun countered and added, "But grandpa's acting skills are getting worse."

Elder Lu smiled and mumbled, "Little rascal."

The two brothers following them smiled, seeing it.

"What do you think about Mr. Wen's son, Lu Chen?" Lu Jinhai asked.

Lu Lijun, who was walking ahead with his grandpa, heard it.

"He is a likable man," Lu Chen replied and asked, "But why are we enquiring about him these days? Is it for Lian?"

Lu Jinhai shook his head, "It's about Yuyan."

It surprised Lu Chen, "Does she know about it?"

"Not yet, but soon we will talk to her," Lu Jinhai replied.

Lu Lijun focussed on what they said, and elder Lu spoke, "You said they look comfortable with each other."

"Yes, father," Lu Jinhai replied.

"I think the same. I saw Yuyan with him, and they looked in perfect harmony. Yuyan hardly gives this much attention to anyone," Lu Chen added.

This reminded Lu Lijun of how Jiang Yuyan talked to Wen Zac and even offered him a light smile, which was rare to see.

'Does she really like him?' he thought and frowned as always trying to think it didn't matter to him, 'Why should I care?'

"I think we should soon talk to Yuyan. I'm sure she will think about it," said Lu Jinhai.

Elder Lu approved, "If you feel right, then do it."

"I talked to Jiang Piezhi, and they are fine with it," Lu Jinhai informed, "Jiang Peizhi met him in the USA a few times and has a good opinion about him.

"I trust all of your judgment," said elder Lu.

How much Lu Lijun tried, these things didn't feel right to him, but he tried to convince himself it was none of his business.

"Yuyan is going on a business trip for two days, and Wen Zac would be with her too as it's a joint project. Let's talk about it after that," Lu Jinhai informed.

Lu Lijun halted and turned to look at his father, "Business trip?"

"Hmm? Do you want to attend it too?" Lu Jinhai asked.

"No. It's just I didn't know about it," Lu Lijun explained.

"It was sudden, so no one knows about it. She will leave early morning," Lu Jinhai informed.

It was really so sudden for Lu Lijun to accept it. Things were processing so fast that he couldn't guess what was happening so suddenly. Not to forget how ignorant he was towards his own feelings for Jiang Yuyan, which he would never guess that it was love.
