Chapter 50: Sneak Into the Factory
Under the curtains of rain, a convoy of six large German goods heading towards the factory drove slowly through the muddy road.
Two dark figures quickly skimmed through the jungle and lurked in the back of the last cargo truck.
Kyle was on high alert, covered only by leather clothes. Quietly, he moved further inside the cargo, and upon seeing two heavily armed German soldiers, he softly murmured, "One for each."
He rushed to one of the enemy soldiers, right hand covering his mouth, and left hand driving the knife deep inside the enemy soldier's heart.
The enemy soldier's comrade-in-arms watched his friend die. He'd have reacted were it not for the deep shock he'd receive, but it was too late. As he pulled out his rifle, Steve used his decorated steel shield and caused damage on the enemy soldier's forehead. He then pulled out a sharp dagger and stabbed the enemy right in the core of the heart.
"Not bad, but you're a little too slow." Kyle nodded and gave Steve his pertinent evaluation.
"You're too fast!" Steve smiled wryly as he dragged the body of the dead soldier.
"You'll have to keep up if you want to fight with me side by side." Kyle shrugged and threw the body of the dead soldier he killed out of the cargo truck.
Steve followed suit.
The two dumped the bodies in the most usual and crude method before sneaking in.
As the factory was located in the rear of the war zone, a great number of cargo trucks came in and out of the gates surrounding the factory. Because of this, the enemy soldiers at the front didn't bother checking all the vehicles.
After all, who'd expect to see the arrival of two super soldiers?
When the convoys stopped, Kyle and Steve walked out of the cargo and swiftly hid between two bunkers. It'd be difficult for one to find them. This mission, Kyle thought it easier than the counterattack campaign.
Soon after, the rapping rain stopped altogether. The dim light paved the way towards the factory building inside the gated walls as enemy figures carried boxes of materials toward the factory. Scattered everywhere were guard soldiers on duty patrol wandering around with armed weapons.
"Unlike the base where many soldiers camped, this doesn't look that intimidating. If anything, it looks much like a normal manufacturing factory with guards situated here and there," Kyle whispered. As he looked around, he saw a twenty-meter-high building which gave off a faint sound of a mechanical operation.
"What exactly are they making that they've set up a factory that runs day and night twenty-four seventh?" Steve asked dubiously.
"What are they making?"
There was a sudden flash in Kyle's gaze. Turning his head, he said carefully, "Steve, let's split up."
Steve looked at him with great surprise. "Split up? It's safer to work together."
"Steve, our focus is on quickly finding where the hostages are being held, not waste time. If the enemy finds our location, no big deal, we'd be able to escape safely in one piece, but it might not be so for the hostages. The factory, its so big. We'd need to split up so we can find them faster, and get out quickly!"
".....That makes sense," Steve nodded. "Then, Kyle, you be careful."
Steve ran out of his hiding spot and avoided the guard's on patrol as he neared the factory.
Watching, Steve's back, Kyle donned a faint smile.
"Brother, I'm sorry. It's up to you to gather the attention of the enemy first. This'll count as your first experience in this world. After all, brother, there is no better way to learn than to do it firsthand."
"Now then, you good 'ole Germans, what good things are you hiding?" Kyle licked his lips, the outline of his body fading in the dark, and disappearing completely in place.
Kyle, he had no shadow, its manifestation nonexistent as he quietly followed Steve.
Inside the gated walls were machinery and equipment more scientifically advanced than the outside world's current technological power. As the German workers operated the equipment held inside, Steve continued lurking in the shadows, careful to not alert nearby enemies.
Pah!
After blowing off the head of a guard patrol, Steve entered the door leading to the factory unnoticed.
".....His skill isn't bad, but that shield is a bit of a hindrance..." Kyle couldn't help but complain as Steve snuck in the factory carrying a steel shield painted with stripes and stars, an American banner. Truly a good way to tell if you're an American rather than blending in with the surroundings.
"Well, this isn't that bad. He is indeed the shield, the Captain who would hold the weight of the world if need be." Kyle smiled as he continued following after Steve ever so silently.
Steve walked up to the third floor where a metallic plumbing system hung below the railway, and rows of blue-lit shelves stacked in the aisle on the third floor.
"Energy clip?" Steve was astounded at the copious amount of energy source, but as his mind was occupied at the thought of saving the hostages, he thought nothing of it and went about his way.
Soon as he left, the ever so sneaky Kyle stopped and looked at the rows of blue-light energy clips piled up on the shelves. The amount... Kyle was overjoyed! How many times could he extract the card? He was giddy with happiness, but soon as he focused on the material, the excitement in his face faded in an instant.
: Extracted energy source formed to make an energy clip. Can emit laser rays. Rare Green product card.
"Will you extract? [Yes] or [No]?"
Kyle was speechless. He though the magazine clips contained with energy sources were of a higher quality, but to think it'd only be a rare green card... What a saddening revelation. A rare green card was nothing more than a sacrifice material. This was the sole reason why Kyle had far too little energy extracting the laid before him. It was no different than ordinary materials he'd find on the battlefield.
"Forget it. Let's just go and save lives with Steve," Kyle said helplessly, but as he stepped a foot forward, a light bulb lit up. He suddenly remembered something. "Wait... Then what's the main material used to run this large place? Ah... I can't believe I'd been attracted to this garbage when there's something here considered so precious on Earth, and in the universe!"
His heart was shocked as he clenched his fist excitedly.
The Tesseract or otherwise known as the Cube contained unlimited sources of energy as it drew its power from the cosmic energy.
Tap!
Kyle actived mode and set out to the hub control center of the factory as fast as he could, regardless of whether he was exposed or not
