Chapter 3478: A Mourning Fairy
Soon, Davis excused himself after he accomplished the goal of calming his family and revitalizing their mental fortitude. In their mind, as long as he existed, then nothing could collapse. Their blind faith in him was something he was both proud of and nothing he could do about.
He traversed straight towards the mausoleum where Fairy Thunderblaze was.
He still had to go meet Ancestor Dian Alstreim and others. He guessed that they would've heard of his return but were waiting so as not to disturb him.
He also needed to go get Drake's wives. His precarious situation separated them from their husband, after all. He couldn't help but smirk, thinking what trouble would ensue when Drake's two immortal wives meet his mortal wives.
No one would easily accept new people into their lives, and the same went for the newcomers in his life. They were trying to get approval from their elder sisters.
Even Yilla was trying to get acceptance in her own way by teaching dance to others instead of fully banking on the cultivation resources he had given.
Davis quickly arrived at the mausoleum.
There were some onlookers, but he paid them no heed and went inside the cryptic tunnels. It was quite similar to how she created the phony inheritance space to bestow the blood essence of the Blazing Thunderlight Kirin.
He was wondering why the manual had been modified and was even itching for payback, but it turned out that it was so that she could trap them and abuse them, although the intent wasn't evil; it was to protect them from her own karmic burden.
Fairy Thunderblaze was willing to care for her disciples, but her ways were just... twisted.
He walked casually, heading down the stairs before arriving in a giant chamber.
In the altar, there was a coffin, and in front of it, a crimson-purple orbed woman sat on a cushion. She was on her knees, staring at the coffin with an expressionless face. She wasn't even wearing her veil.
Davis stayed silent for a few minutes.
In the meantime, he investigated the coffin with his soul sense. It was open, and the remains inside seemed to be ground to dust long ago. There was nothing left, not even a semblance of an aura or the karmic connection, so he couldn't tell if the remains were really her father or not.
If there were no karmic connection, he guessed that her father had been long reincarnated multiple times. From his experience and comprehension of Reincarnation Laws, he could already guess that one reincarnation through the reincarnation cycle was not enough for karmic connection with people from the past life to be severed.
It needed multiple reincarnations for that to happen, and Davis wasn't sure of the exact number.
"How long are you going to stay here?"
It had been half an hour, and Davis was losing his patience. He would rather be with his family, guessing right now Evelynn was becoming all chummy with them or troubled as there would be endless questions.
Davis found it hard to believe such a beautiful woman could be so twisted in her values without someone imparting them. Either she was taught by someone close, or she had a difficult past like Zanqua, as no human was born a strategist.
Eventually, he saw that she wasn't moving away or paying attention to him, causing him to leave.
He headed straight back to the Alstreim Family, and by the time he returned to the Purple Guest Palace, he saw that many people were there waiting for him, from Ancestor Dian Alstreim to a few Hegemons who ruled the Fifty-Two Territories, including the Mandate Emperor, Regalanius and Karmic Guardian Emperor, Gaius Karma.
"Your eminence!"
They all bowed except Ancestor Dian Alstreim and Ancestor Tirea Snow, causing Davis to turn speechless. However, he quickly remembered he was the one who brought peace to this continent, so their respect and adoration were understandable.
The stark contrast of how he was treated in the First Haven World and here was laughable to him.
"News travels fast huh..."
Davis chuckled, "I see that you all did your best to make the Grand Beginnings Continent flourish."
"Yes." The Mandate Emperor nodded, "We were scared of what would've happened when the skies were going to split, but it seems like it was only an illusion. Still, we don't know who could cast such a grand illusion of that scale. From then on, we avoided ascending as we're not sure of the happenings in the First Haven World, but some rogue cultivators tried to ascend recently and found out that they were restricted and couldn't break through the bottleneck no matter what."
"Hmm?" Davis's brows raised, "Is that true?"
He turned to look at Ancestor Dian Alstreim and asked, causing the latter to nod.
"It was quite recent, like a few weeks ago or even before that, as we aren't sure when we were restricted. Perhaps it started from the time when the terrifying illusion was all over the world, but we aren't sure as we put a ban on ascension for the subsequent period of time until rogue cultivators tried ascending but failed to do so..."
"..."
Davis turned dumbfounded. So the other paths were sealed right now, and he had to trample on Founder Alstreim Windstorm's life to get his family out of this place?
Just what had happened to the formation? Did the World Master turn off the ascension mechanism in regard to the Candidacy?
'Wait... did Fairy Thunderblaze opening up a path into this sealed world interfere with the grand formation's ability to act like an ascension mechanic...?'
Suddenly, Davis couldn't help but think.
After all, Fairy Thunderblaze had already set up this path and invited him for help when he was marrying Zestria and Bylai, so it was around that time the ascension mechanism could've also accidentally stopped working or broken as a side effect!
The timing coincided, making him wonder if it really was the case.
