Chapter 288: Viscount of Darkness
Taverns in the Kingdom of Light too, but they were not as noisy as the normal taverns in other places.
All of the people here had the same status. No one was superior or inferior.
William treated Lancelot and the others to a sumptuous feast.
The Temple Knights didn't stand on ceremony. They ordered the most expensive dishes on the menu.
Lord William had spent hundreds of gold coins on this meal.
When everyone finished eating and was about to leave, an ear-piercing and fearful scream could be heard.
The entire tavern fell silent.
At the same time, from the second floor, blood spewed down the staircase as if it were a waterfall. Soon, it reached everyone's feet.
The civilians who had been drinking were stunned.
So much blood?
What was happening? Many professionals also suffered from a rude shock.
However, no one ran away. They wanted to find out what was going on. This was the Kingdom of Light. How dare someone kill and commit a crime here?
Everyone was in disbelief.
Lancelot frowned. He exchanged a glance with William. They were just drinking downstairs, yet both of them didn't sense any abnormal movement upstairs, at all.
Furthermore, such a strong bloody smell couldn't be masked by the smell of alcohol.
"Evacuate everyone. I'll take care of this." Lancelot didn't ask the civilians to come forth in such a dangerous situation. He pulled out his sword and became the first to go up the stairs. William raised his eyebrows and followed him.
He was very curious. What kind of person dared to commit such a crime in the Kingdom of Light? The Temple of Light was not far from here. Such a person was way too fearless!
Both of them arrived on the second floor after following the trail of crimson red blood.
They looked around and found that all of the guests were dead.
Everyone's heads were facing the stairs, their eyes wide open. It was as if they were waiting for the arrival of William and Lancelot...
All of their throats had been slit open. Endless blood gushed out of their bodies as they turned into dried up corpses.
However, the most important thing was that the murderer was still here.
It was a man in long black robes, who was squatting behind the corpses. His face was covered in strange runes. When he saw Lancelot, he finally grinned and started laughing like a madman.
"Hahahaha!"
"So, this is the Viscount of Light."
"Wow, I like how you look."
"How do you feel after seeing these people die?"
A black aura surrounded the man. His body was constantly contorting into different positions, as he twisted his joints in strange places.
Lancelot narrowed his eyes. He didn't respond, but pulled out his sword and moved closer to that man.
On the other hand, William gulped. He couldn't stop cursing in his heart.
"Oh my god! Curiosity indeed kills the cat. What have I done to deserve this? He didn't notice me yet, right?" The prince felt like returning home now.
Who was this man?
In William's previous life, this man was a super savage character. He was the one who had killed Lancelot and trapped his soul in River Styx.
Lancelot had a nickname called 'Viscount of Light'.
William had recognized the murderer at first glance.
He was the 'Viscount of Darkness'.
Needless to say, both of them were born enemies.
Countless players had died because of the Viscount of Darkness.
Many players who got on his nerves suffered the fate of being directly trapped in the Dark World.
Even after they died, they would be revived in the Dark World.
As a result, the players could only delete their account and start afresh.
It had to be said that this man had been an extremely terrifying existence even to players.
Furthermore, he had always been stronger than Lancelot. He was a monster that committed all sorts of evil crimes, whether it was annihilating an entire city or a nation. He had used every cruel method possible to torture anyone who was close to Lancelot!
His aim was to make Lancelot descend into darkness.
He followed Lancelot wherever he went.
He would use the most anguishing and painful method to constantly torture Lancelot's mind.
If Lancelot was a piece of blank paper that couldn't be stained, this man was a bottle of dark ink that wanted to taint that blank paper.
"Who are you?" As of this point, Lancelot didn't know who this man was. He had never seen him before.
This man was full of pure darkness, and it felt suffocating to be around him. Lancelot inhaled a gust of cold air.
"You will know who I am in the future." The Viscount of Darkness stuck out his tongue and licked the blood on his lips.
"You're leaving now?" Lancelot rushed forth with his sword, but the man merely reached out with his hand. A translucent darkness barrier appeared between both of them.
The Viscount of Darkness licked the translucent barrier and cheekily waved at Lancelot, who was frantically attacking the barrier.
Just when the man was about to leave, he suddenly glanced at William and strangely smiled. "A friend of yours?"
"Wow! How would you like your friend to die?" The Viscount of Darkness looked at Lancelot.
Then, the man ignored them, and heartily laughed while jumping into a hole conjured out of dark magic.
At the same time, the darkness barrier had been shattered by Lancelot.
However, Lancelot seemed to have been too violent in his sword attack as the sword energy split many corpses into two...
"Damnit! Doesn't the Kingdom of Light have a defensive barrier around it? There are so many Temple Knights around, so how could he have entered? Are the experts blind?" Lancelot looked at the pile of bodies in front of him and sat down at a corner. He couldn't believe what was happening.
Also, the murderer seemed to know him well.
Standing beside him, William's mouth twitched, and a painful expression appeared on his face. "Brother, he wants to kill me!"
Lancelot rolled his eyes. "What are you scared of? You're not weaker than me. Perhaps he escaped because he was afraid that we would gang up against him.".
William quietly shook his head. This matter was not as simple as Lancelot thought it to be!
If William had the ability to kill him, he would definitely do everything he could to kill that perverted man!
However, William wasn't strong enough.
Firstly, it was impossible to tell whether the Viscount of Darkness was the real deal in the flesh or whether he was using a clone.
Secondly, he had plenty of teleportation space magic scrolls.
Thirdly, he was far more respected in the Dark World than Lancelot was in the Temple of Light.
No matter where he was, even if the place was the Temple of Light, a teleportation portal to the Dark World could open anytime for him, and he could easily escape...
William looked at Lancelot, who was starting to study the cause of death of these people and the type of magic that the murderer used. He didn't know how to explain the situation to Lancelot.
He couldn't possibly tell Lancelot that the Viscount of Darkness was his best buddy who 'loved him too much, and they would have a love-hate relationship their whole lives.
In William's previous life, the Viscount of Darkness had countless chances to kill Lancelot, yet he let him live until he became a Legendary expert...
Although Lancelot had always been invincible in battles, ultimately, he had been defeated by the Viscount of Darkness.
"This is ridiculous. I had just commented that the Kingdom of Light is the safest place on this entire continent, and this kind of thing happens?
"I actually happened to be present at their first meeting?
"What have I done to deserve this!"
William could not stop grumbling in his heart. Right now, he just wanted to hurry to the Temple of Light and obtain the Legendary equipment. Then, he would immediately return to the City of Dawn and stay at Moses's fortune-telling hut for half a year.
"Furthermore, I've become that guy's target. This won't do. When I see that guy again, I must tell him that Lancelot and I are not close friends..."
It could not be helped.
In this sort of situation, he could only betray Lancelot.
Only William knew how terrifying the Viscount of Darkness had been in his previous life.
If one thought about it, even players didn't want to accept missions that were related to the Viscount of Darkness.
As an NPC that couldn't revive, would he be interested in becoming involved with the Viscount of Darkness?
Actually, he was...
But now was not the time!
Does William know the Viscount of Darkness well?
Definitely not!
How can a normal person understand the way a madman thinks?
Divination was useless on the Viscount of Darkness.
There was no way to foresee what that madman would do next.
Otherwise, the Temple of Light would have killed him long ago!
"Actually, that's not right. I do know him quite well. Since the Viscount of Darkness wants to kill me, should I create some traps for him and take care of this problem in advance? Then, I will be free from this ticking time bomb once and for all." William raised his eyebrows. He didn't know whether this would work out.
If anything went wrong and he really got on the Viscount of Darkness's nerves, he would attract an invincible enemy that came from hell.
