Chapter 16: Killing the Enemy (2)
Kyle reacted quickly, body growing tense immediately. He squatted on the floor quietly; gun held tight against him as his ears perked up to listen to the outside noise.
Thump... Thump... Thump...
Several footsteps approached the vehicle. Kyle immediately understood their plans. They had no plans to destroy the materials in the vehicle. No, they wanted to plunder them.
"Since they're reluctant to destroy the goods in the car, it's my chance!" Kyle's gaze was calm. Hundreds of his combat skill cards reflected in the pools of his eyes before flashing away.
He quickly gripped the gun handle and spread his left hand quietly into the air. Green skills cards were sandwiched promptly between his fingers one by one. Only he could see them.
Unlike the ability skill cards, item cards are an entity card and could be materialized into the physical world for personal use.
"Be careful. Go and take a look inside."
"Don't let your guard down."
Two of the enemies communicated one another in German, their voice hushed in whispers as they trotted slowly to the back of the military vehicle covered with green tarpaulin. Just as they tugged on the tarp, trying to pry it open with the end of their bayonet, a black, round metal object was thrown from the inside of the military vehicle.
"Cover! Grenade!"
"Lie down!"
As soon as the words fell, it was too late. The two German soldiers near the military vehicle were blown into smithereens; their flesh splashed between the gravels in the midst of the night.
Then, a shadowy figure rushed out the back of the car.
"Enemy! There's an enemy!"
"Fire!"
"Get ready in position!"
The remaining three German soldiers on guard not too far away shouted and pulled on their mounted machine gun, quickly firing round after rounds of bullets on the rear of the military vehicle. But somehow, oddly enough, their shells landed on nothing... And at the bodies of their dead companions.
Too fast!
Under the veils of the night and the sounds of explosive grenades, Kyle had no time to rest. Heaving a quiet sigh, Kyle responded with his counterattack.
Bang!
Sounds of gunfires rang out in the darkness. One German soldier was shot by a bullet directly between his two eyebrows. Red and white liquid gushed out from his forehead and the back of his head.
The two other German soldiers were too frightened to confirm the direction of the bullets. Their bodies quivered in fear, but they no time to react. Two more shots rang out.
It wasn't a lot. Only three shots--three shots to decree their death before they became another corpse stretched across the battlefield.
"Not too bad." Kyle walked out of the shadows from behind a tree, using the covers of the night. He scanned the bodies of the fallen German soldiers drenched in the pools of their blood.
Just now, as he rushed out of the back of the military vehicle, Kyle quickly scanned the enemy's position in less than a second before escaping to pass the first wave of intense rain of bullets firing onto him. Thereafter, he launched his own set of attack with quick and accurate precision.
The first battle to the death, one against five... A perfect counterattack.
"The first kill... First murder..." Kyle looked at the German soldiers with wide, bulging eyes.
There was no joy nor sorrow on his face. He was indifferent like a god of death.
Kyle thought that he'd vomit after his first kill coupled with the bloody scene of corpses he'd just borne witness to.
But, rather, he had no such feeling in his heart. His gut instinct warned him that if they were not killed, it would not be them lying on coldly on the ground, but him.
"This isn't for the sake of glory to America, but my own sake. I can only live in this world under the premise of footing my foot down firmly." Kyle muttered indifferently to the bodies on the ground. "When you met me, it can only be that you were unlucky."
