Chapter 1278: Souls, Memories, and System
Chapter 1278 Souls, Memories, and System
Ning understood what it was that the system was trying to say. He could imagine numerous distant suns glaring at him that were reflected back in through the emptiness of his inner world.
Not only the light, but the radiation itself would cause a lot of problems if it all looped back around. The heat alone would cause more problems than one could imagine.
Ning couldn't imagine how bad it would be if space in his inner world was myroptoid instead of spherical.
"That makes me wonder," Ning said. "How does my inner world function exactly? Is it in a different space from this universe? Or is it like a spatial pocket in this universe?"
<It is outside of this universe.>
<however, because you are in this universe, it exists just outside of this universe. As you are at the edge of the universe, your Inner world is right outside, attached to it>
"Hmm... I see," Ning said, trying to think of how it would work. "The outer barrier is strong enough to never get destroyed, right?"
<Yes>
<Even a Universal Will will never be able to do anything to the barrier.>
"The Galactic one did leave behind some energy," Ning said. "Whatever, let's move on to the other question I had. About Souls and Systems, and how reincarnation removes memories. I am allowed to learn of this, correct?"
<You are. And now that you know about the Triangle of Power, there is nothing stopping you from learning more.>
"Go on then," Ning said. "I'm waiting."
<A soul is capable of holding onto memories. However, that is only during the time it is still in the Realm of Matter.>
<However, those are just memories, and nothing else. The Soul itself has no Intelligence or Matter, so the memories don't play a significant part in a soul.>
<When a soul tries to break through the barrier of worlds, to go from the Realm of Matter to the Realm of Souls, it must use its own pure Energy that comes from within it.>
<Souls always get injured when breaking through this barrier, or coming in. That happens every single time, and in that process, they sometimes lose their memories.>
<When in the Realm of Souls, if they happen to have memories, they are still destroyed when the Realm of Souls tries to heal the damage that a soul gets.>
"Damage? You mean the taint?" Ning asked. He remembered the owner of the beast's bloodline system disintegrating as his soul was way too damaged to return back to the realm of the souls.
"Those sorts of damage can be healed?" he asked. That was certainly the first time he had heard about it.
<To a certain extent, but not completely. If the damage is low, it can be healed. If high, the Realm of Souls does its best to heal the soul, but that doesn't always become possible.>
<Sometimes, the damage remains and overtimes the damage accumulates to a point where healing a soul is no longer a possibility. If the soul ends up being way too damaged, there is nothing that can be done about it to revert it back.>
"Then what? It just dies?" Ning asked.
<No, the soul—even when damaged beyond repair—does the same thing it always does. It comes back to the Realm of Matter.>
<however, in this instance, due to its lack of energy, the soul cannot force its way into the world. It must find a weak spot in the barrier that protects the Realm of Matter and the Realm of Souls and go in through it.>
"A weak spot? What sort?" Ning asked.
<There are numerous locations with weak spots in the barrier of the universe that are caused by Souls that move in and out frequently. There are times when a soul is no longer strong enough to go through and it must try to break past, so it is forced to go strike the barrier to the Realm of Souls multiple times.>
<Those sorts of places are where the weak souls find their way to, and those weak souls then end up living there and doing the same in return, causing a loop of souls that continuously try to force their way to the other side, in turn creating an opening for weaker souls to come through.>
<These sorts of planets where the barrier is weak are usually called the garbage dump of the universe, as that is where the old souls go to die.>
'Garbage dump...' Ning thought for a moment. Something about this felt familiar.
"Oh right," he remembered. "Nova had a similar soul, didn't she? One on the verge of being destroyed. I wonder how she's doing. Well, she must be dead already."
It wasn't fun knowing how long it had been since he had left the other universe. There was no doubt that almost all of them were dead.
"Anyway," Ning said. "I think I understand a little about how Souls lose their memories during reincarnation. What I don't understand is why they remember at all when they have systems. What lets them have memories?"
<The memories are there by necessity for a system to function as well as it can. Someone who has no past memories or experiences doesn't make for a good host.>
<As a result, and due to following the path of the Energy system, the many Galactic and Universal Wills end up making systems with the sole intention of saving memories of those that the system attaches themselves.>
<They attach themselves to the souls as they leave while they still retain their memories, destroying most of them in the process and stealing their memories. So, while the soul doesn't retain any memories during reincarnation, the system does. That is what give reincarnators memories of their past life.>
Ning stayed silent for a while, taking in the information. "That was quite informative. Thank you," he said. It felt as if he now knew everything he needed to.
"Although, I do have one final question," he said. "What is a system... exactly?"
