Chapter 12: Unexpected Status
Chapter 012: Unexpected Status
"A 20 year old human at level 10? And not a single skill?"
The receptionist spoke aloud in surprise.
Looking at the surprised expression of the receptionist, Shien's heart sunk.
"What? Is there a problem?"
Shien questioned while feigning calmness at the receptionist. He even spoke in a puzzled tone like he's completely unaware of what just happened.
"No, there are no problems."
The receptionist said so while maintaining a smile, but Shien obviously doesn't believe her.
Thus, Shien switched tacks and asked various questions. He did his best to use circumvent methods to gather information without revealing his lack of common knowledge for this world.
This was naturally not easy, but Shien had no other way.
For now at least, Shien doesn't want to expose his abnormalities just yet.
Especially things like common knowledge. If he really did show too much ignorance, then what that would bring wouldn't but just ridicule, but also suspicion.
Therefore, after a great deal of circumvent questioning, Shien finally understood just what was going on.
According to the receptionist, in this world, all life have levels. Even gods aren't exceptions.
The higher the level, the stronger the power and abilities. From level 1 as the start, levels will rise following growth and training, to reach a highest level of level 100.
However, not everyone can reach the level limit.
Based on each person's personal potential and talent, some people level slowly, and some level quickly. Some people could reach higher levels, and some will end up coming to a stop in their growth without realizing it, and their levels will no longer rise.
Therefore, in Omnipotlin, the younger one can reach a higher level, the higher their position generally are.
And fighting is the main way to level up, but leveling is for the sake of growth, so only through meaningful battles or training could one level up. If one were to easily defeat their opponents, then their leveling speed with become very slow, so the best way to level is to fight with opponents of a similar or greater strength than oneself, and life or death battles with demonic beasts are the best way to level up.
Besides that, training and practice could also help one level up. So long as there is growth, leveling is possible.
Thanks to that, people of every race could reach a certain level after reaching adulthood. So long as there's no issues with their talent and potential, and no matter which race it is, everyone could hit level 10 after reaching adulthood.
In other words, for human standards, one should have reached level 10 by the time they were 15. For them to reach level 10 at only age 20 should be reserved to people whose with unimpressive potential.
Of course, that alone isn't enough to be surprising.
There are people who can't accept being normal in the adventurer's guild. Even though their potential is low, they still wanted to be adventurers, fight against demonic beasts, and exhaustively raise their own levels. Therefore, human adventurers who only reached level 10 at 30 years old have appeared.
However, for someone to be level 10 but not have a single skill. That is what was surprising.
It must be known that skills are powers with various effects. So long as one has enough talent and fulfill the requirements, then one can gain the skill and use the skill points from level ups to level up their skills.
In this world, the only skills that can't be gained by studying are unique skill and special skills.
Unique skills are something unique to each person, and there are no two skills with exactly the same effects. Besides being born with it, here are some people who suddenly awaken their skill during their growth. The effects of unique skills can be high or low, and there are even unique skills that are completely useless.
Special skills are skills that are gained under special circumstance. The effects vary, and blessings are in fact one kind of special skills.
These two kinds of skills both belong to the type that can't be leveled. They're at their most powerful from the start.
The skills that can be leveled are much like a person's levels, it depends on personal potential and talent which decides whether they can be learned.
Some people could easily learn skills that they have a talent for, and some some skills a person might not be able to learn their whole lives. That's what creates the various different specialties among people.
This is especially true for some very powerful skills. They're very exacting on a person's talents and potential. To learn them, they'd normally need to satisfy extremely stringent requirements, and they need to spend a great deal of skill points before they can be learned, so their acquisition difficulty is self-evident.
Thankfully though, the skill points gained from leveling up also vary among each person, and the gains too depend on personal potential and talent.
The more talented one is, the more skill points one can gain upon leveling up, and the reverse is true too.
Thus, if one's potential is nearly exhausted, the skill points they gain will become less and less. Only by leveling through suicidal training or combat could one gain more skill points than normal, with a maximum of 100 points.
That is to say that whether it be levels or skills, it's not like in games where anyone could rise equally. All things depends on personal potential and talent. That's how reality is.
But, there are hard to learn skills, and there are easy to learn skills.
Normally, no matter how average a person's talents are, practicing with a weapon for a few years will be enough to gain those weapon's skill.
Take Shien's [Two-handed Sword] skill. For normal people, they'd be able to learn it through training for a few years with a two-handed sword type weapon. For those with talent, they could learned it in a few months or even a few days.
Under that kind of circumstance, logically speaking, no matter how terrible one's talent is, they did still managed to reach level 10, so they should have at least one or two skills.
But for Shien?
Not a single skill.
It's because of this point that the receptionist was surprised with.
Only Shien knew that the reason his level was so low is because he only came to this world ten days ago.
As for skills, none were shown only because the magic scanner couldn't appraise them.
Not only does Shien not lack skills, but he has fully 17 skills, of which one of them is a unique skill and another is a special skill. The remaining 15 skills are all maxed skills at level 10.
In other words, based on the receptionist's words, the magic scanner could only detect skills that are level 7 and below, and it can't detect unique and special skills, so there's no way it could detect any of Shien's skills.
Thanks to that, the magic scanner couldn't show Shien's skills at all, and that's what gave Shien the status of not having a single skill.
This situation started attracting the attention of the surrounding adventurers, and they begun looking over.
And Shien who finally understood the cause of all this ended up silent.
Only now did Shien finally understand just how abnormal his status was.
A low level is understandable. After all, Shien has only been in this world for ten days.
Or rather, to be able to reach level 10 in just ten days is already something unthinkable. If not for the fact that he killed so many demonic beasts in the forest, there's no way he could have leveled up so fast.
But on the skills side, Shien's status is obviously abnormal.
